If you are interested in attending wonderful meetings of WWII veterans and enthusiasts, no registration is need for the free events held at 7:00 at the Country Meadows Retirement Home in Hershey (751 Sand Hill Road, near the Med Center) on the first Thursday of every month. Sometimes these are held at the Grace United Methodist Church near the LDMS--so ask for clarification. Keynote speakers typically discuss their personal experiences while in the US armed forces during WWII. A photo session, as well as a question and answer session are usually held. WWII era memorabilia is on hand. (Recent speakers include: a Pearl Harbor radio operator, the daughter of an American POW who walked from a camp near Berlin to Odessa-Black Sea port, and a Guadalcanal Marine veteran, and Edwin Cole Bearrs--the noted Civil War and WWII veteran and historian; Merchant Mariners who were in the line of fire and were shipwrecked; Chaplins who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor; A story on Emma Jane Foster--one of the two nurses who served with the Flying Tigers in China--a PSU graduate); Malmedy Massacre survivor. Please see Mr. Chortanoff for up to date information.
